Fun forays by Facebook today as Lite is launched, heralded as a Twitter killer whilst officially described as being a Facebook for those with poor bandwidth.  With Facebook known to occasionally crawl, with a smattering of grumbling from the USA and UK, it makes sense to make a version for those with a slow connection.  Especially when you bare in mind that only 30% of the 250 million users live in the USA.

Uproar and excitement today occurred on mass as Facebook slipped a world-wide invitation to every user to become a privileged Beta user.  Everyone got very excited, but was unable to actually use Lite.  After cuffufles and confusion, it was finally announced that the message was just for playground testing in India. This website had some screen grabs of the new Lite and soon many many news articles spawned - The shots of Azhar Chougle's profile spread around the world like seedy images for digital geeks.

So Facebook Lite - looks a bit like Twitter or a slimmed-down friend-feed.  With a high number of complaints suggesting that the one skinny Facebook - that trumped MySpace in the 'additional nonsense' [read: apps] department - has become distinctly annoying over time.  After masses of 'kill a zombie' invitations, the Facebook Lite has a look to it that's reminiscent of the old Facebook - the one that soared.

It may be a Twitter killer, and whilst it''s stated that it's simply a skinny Facebook and that's not the intention, it'll be interesting to see how people will use it.  Once it's actually released..
