Today Photoshop celebrates it's 20th birthday, even though it's only had history for the last 12 years (joke courtesy of Sea Dog). Events have been organised globally to celebrate including a celebration in San Francisco hosted by the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP), a 20-hour online marathon broadcast in Germany and digital imaging contests in India and France.
Here at (untilted) HQ however, I feel the only way to really celebrate is for the creative team to go to the pub, and then come back and use all the styles and filters we've never been allowed to use. Anyone else interested?
There is also a nice video available here which reunites the founding Photoshop team, John Knoll, Thomas Knoll, Russell Brown, and Steve Guttman, for the first time in 18 years. The NAPP have also released an iPhone app which is a replica of the original Photoshop PC programme which came out in 1990. Users can modify their photos with original photoshop tools, but unfortunately this 'limited edition' app is only available to select attendees of the aforementioned celebration in San Francisco.
If your invite got lost in the post too, us regular users are being encouraged to get involved through Social media sites including the Photoshop Facebook fan-page which has a new 'celebrate' tab which has a trivia and countdown widget, a showcase of all the PS icons and an image template to download and use as profile pictures and avatars. Twitter users can also use the hashtag #PS20 to celebrate further (and boost Photoshop up on the trending topics list, but why not - it is their birthday).
So, join us in saying Happy Birthday to Photoshop, heres to all the exciting things to come and also to all those new Photoshop disasters.
