While I was spying around the World Wide Web I found a website that introduced something scary (well at least to me!)
Can you imagine the day when we no longer need a standard business card, when we don’t have a wallet busting at the seams full of our contact’s cards and when Rotadex files for bankruptcy due to lack of sales? Well I think that day is not so far away thanks to a new design by Hideaki Matsui in collaboration with Jae Wan Park and Dong Ho Yung.
They have designed a ring that stores all the basic personal information of the wearer, which can be transferred to a new contact by shaking hands with them and downloaded onto a computer. Obviously this person must also be wearing one of these rings but if the idea took off it would mean a whole new way of exchanging information with people. Also according to Yanko Design’s website the ring is charged by human body temperature so no plug is required, making it even more appealing.
They are not the only people developing this technology though as a similar product called iBand, which you could mistake for one of Steve Job’s creations, is being developed. Exhibited at the ‘Digital Future – Creativity without Boundaries’ in Scotland iBand has the same idea of exchanging information through a handshake. It obviously needs a bit of improvement as it’s a bit clunky but technology is advancing so fast these days that I’m not sure I can keep up.
It brings new light to the idea that you can tell a lot about someone by his or her handshake!
