Last week Miley Cyrus made the shocking announcement that she was leaving twitter. What was more shocking however was her rap video uploaded to youtube that explained why she was leaving twitter (see below). Man, she's badass. Apparently the rumour is she left it because of her latest fling but in a statement released on her official site, and from what I can gather from the lyrics, she just wants more privacy.
Although all her fans/stalkers may be upset she has got a point.
Allowing the world to see every little detail of your life could be a dangerous thing, even for us that aren't famous. A recent survey by home insurance company Legal & General found that 38% of social networking users post details about holiday plans and weekends away. This partnered with updates about new purchases and address details could make it very easy for a potential burglar to know the best time to target your home and what kind of items to expect.
According to the survery we might not just have ourselves to blame though. Michael Fraser, an ex burglar who helped with the survery, says with Google's 'Street View' option you can tell if a house is a potential gold-mine or just easy to access. Although I guess not all burglars are as clever as Michael.
I don't think i'll be leaving twitter, especially if you have to make a rap about it, but it will probably make me think before I next tweet.
