Having just watched a short video about Google's taking over the world, the Internet, and the very cables that deliver said Internet, and spent a short aftermath considering the potential evils of the company, I've been quite easily won over by this new release: Google Public Data Explorer.
Google's Public Data Explorer from Google Labs adds to the company's 187 existing patents and the new tool, designed for "avid data crunchers" is aimed at students, and journalists - and presumably at other demographics who also like figures.
The site offers time-lapse data visualisations, such as Fertility Rates over time (to pick the first example it offers). Not only this, but it comes ion a variety of chart types which should please media geeks out there, with new joyful screen-grabs pushed into every powerpoint presentation. Charts will be sharable through a direct URL or through web embedding. All this comes from Trendalyzer which was purchased by Google in 2006, making up on of the 30 companies they've bought in the last nine years.
Right, now that announcement's over, let's return to watching this video about how Google's essentially taking over the earth. Maybe we can make a chart out of it.
