Work is about to take a giant hit as a monster social aggregator and media hub comes to browser sidebars everywhere.
Where you there for the two hours a week or two ago when Twitter went down? After a lot of commotion and calling of tech guys, here in this office we calmed down and went back to work. Because interestingly, we can work without Twitter. I follow tech-based media people and whilst I missed having some excellent links displayed in a busy little pop up at the bottom of Fire (yes, I use Twitterfox, let's move on) I did quite unsurprisingly cope. In fact, we all coped, and the mass of post-twitter-apocalypse tweets suggested that everyone had spent the two hours very productively. Working, in fact.
So more disruption's on its way in the form of social-aggregator Yoono. Not only does it work as a desktop friendfeed, bringing together Facebook, Twitter, Bebo (still hanging in there) et al into one giant stream, but this lovely app works as a messenger too. So it's messenger + twitter + facebook = no work.
It looks great, but horrifically distracting. The desktop app designed to sit in the browser sidebar is soon to be launched. It includes the obvious chat mediums Windows Live Messenger, Google Talk, and AIM, but less obviously alongside the main Facebook, Twitter and Myspace, it includes Flickr. My only qualm is that social media platforms appear to be bundled into one stream, since I check some more than others, but if that's the only flaw then this is a great bundle.
I think they've created a monster.
