Twitter has developed a new paid-for feature and we quite like it. Now those with shared accounts are able to show followers who's tweeting. So for our (untitled) twitter we'll be able to sign off individually.
The move is orientated to businesses, in a move to "more business specific features" since their Twitter presence is massive. In beta testing at the moment, Contributors allows "users to engage in more authentic conversations." Perhaps it will, but it'll definitely mean an end to the common sign offs afters tweets such as "Hello World -CT".
The new feature will append tweeters' usernames below the tweet (in the same place as the date, method, etc) which means you'll be able to click to view the individuals (no doubt propelling individuals' accounts to amazing popularity) and it's all be a bit more human and natural. It's all about knowing who people are - whilst there's a million spam bots out there, the company's becoming increasingly concerned with verification such as the formalised verified accounts over summer - although this new feature's more for a personalised feel than anything else.
Since this is in beta, some viewers will get to use it and some won't. Judging by a quick monitor of Twitter chatter the idea's already being very well received. We're looking forward to the full launch of features (some which will be for everyone to see as with this, and some for business' eyes only) and seeing what other developments Twitter has in store for businesses (and real people too).
Bring on the business model. Perhaps.
