Everyone's gushing about Twitter today.  Granted, it may not be the musical quality and more about twitter.  Trendmaps are being pulled out everywhere to illustrate that Twitter's traffic tripled last night.

With an average audience of 12.4 million, the show peaked last night with 14.5 million which is 48% of viewing figures, according to somewhat unofficial overnight figures.

Twitter as always became a flood of keywords, specifically: "xfactor", "simon", "cowell", "@joemcalderry91" or "jedward".  Importantly, what the stats show is the delay from watching X-Factor to tweeting about it.  Conclusive evidence that it's not everybody that's jumped on the television-whilst-tweeting bandwagon.  Which is nice. Interestingly, for all our talk of conversation, with figures like that is clearly becomes impossible to respond to individuals and claim a hold of the conversation.  For example 13,000-14,000 live comments come in via CoverItLiveChat during a typical Sunday night.  Less interestingly, 11,000 of the X Factor Twibbons are being worn by tweeters' avatars; and they have been exposed to a further 850,000 users.  Roll on the race for Christmas number one.
